The Broken Dishes was inspired by an antique quilt I saw with 8" blocks. I've done this in 6" and I prefer that but I like these bigger pieces too because they cover alot of area fast. And a bunch of the triangles were leftover from another quilt top recently finished. It's buried upstairs so I haven't shown that yet. I did not plan for this to look Christmassy so I don't look at it that way. I still hope to find something for the border. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghriyKlrBbSvRGuJ0ZfQW8CDlbeIoa15wKRoJV4TuRP-P75XMldXRiDOZZo6J898wWHmJU_XYqS4lyhvoFJhmfQSgq91zHsbUtVF3n_BVcDPQBg_oB0ns4OZqqfWjY8jUxFcE4JUDkC5QGbHbEBXu4bTPnjeJbOACNV0g-Y0348YXv_U2YRX9o-1aKm-Gi/s3262/original_4e517a98-6a06-49c4-a5d4-fd50f3f4281a_20240114_152256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3262" data-original-width="2351" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghriyKlrBbSvRGuJ0ZfQW8CDlbeIoa15wKRoJV4TuRP-P75XMldXRiDOZZo6J898wWHmJU_XYqS4lyhvoFJhmfQSgq91zHsbUtVF3n_BVcDPQBg_oB0ns4OZqqfWjY8jUxFcE4JUDkC5QGbHbEBXu4bTPnjeJbOACNV0g-Y0348YXv_U2YRX9o-1aKm-Gi/s320/original_4e517a98-6a06-49c4-a5d4-fd50f3f4281a_20240114_152256.jpg" width="231" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh38Qy41PblluvLN1jgMBQ5eo8twAlszHnNJJF0ONLFWC2oYf1OuaQMUMBKgtMKUhtoFA3t6my1f-D93z3GvENGM0DnoaQilztjpx12PrLKdXpZ1Jfxae1qwSYnRC3-saJtfq99_hYItpX9AaNiVI-7u3a4jHf6KwNnY3CaWBJC_jVS_ON5MufVqEQ5pucy/s3456/20240119_151134.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="3456" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh38Qy41PblluvLN1jgMBQ5eo8twAlszHnNJJF0ONLFWC2oYf1OuaQMUMBKgtMKUhtoFA3t6my1f-D93z3GvENGM0DnoaQilztjpx12PrLKdXpZ1Jfxae1qwSYnRC3-saJtfq99_hYItpX9AaNiVI-7u3a4jHf6KwNnY3CaWBJC_jVS_ON5MufVqEQ5pucy/s320/20240119_151134.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>The crumb quilt is one of two I've been working on at Studio 3. Lois was asking for scraps to make a courthouse steps style string quilt. She'd just finished one and enjoyed it so much she wanted to do more. So I pulled out a tub of scrapstrips and I joined her. We each made 2. This one started with strip set ends I collected from several years. Little pieces were joined to make a row. It's very freeing because there are no seams or points to match. The navy/black sashing I used was donated precut at 9" long. I think someone cut the wrong size or decided on a different color. There are enough to make another quilt. Some other day. </p><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgha0eCTdXTEyNdwAYSZt2JRr3MYFux8vCwT7KoXpLBcLuFM14zlDNtdKgfOH0Ga5_HvnBdB_ADFoGyNi4X2TATI_t2MABJ68ThA1dOcGV44A_S_9TFtFcsx-TODkgefpaSIuN3-Bq46258Zt5m8a0KhcxMkb0x-yr-LJFz9fglNTD53f0KwpoxBLtDb0lX/s3456/20240117_150154.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="3456" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgha0eCTdXTEyNdwAYSZt2JRr3MYFux8vCwT7KoXpLBcLuFM14zlDNtdKgfOH0Ga5_HvnBdB_ADFoGyNi4X2TATI_t2MABJ68ThA1dOcGV44A_S_9TFtFcsx-TODkgefpaSIuN3-Bq46258Zt5m8a0KhcxMkb0x-yr-LJFz9fglNTD53f0KwpoxBLtDb0lX/s320/20240117_150154.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>I started this small quilt when a small baggie of 1 1/2" squares were donated. I quilted swirls freehand. I need to change that swirl design a bit to go faster and use less thread, less backtracking. I'll doodle on a whiteboard after I look at pantos online. Pantos slow me down so I need to find something I can do without messing up freehand. Often I have a problem with the size and or space of my motifs not being the same size from beginning to end. I know the tricks to help prevent them. I guess I need to focus on that. I will pass this one on to someone else to bind.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO6zK06wwgSxYZiQE6ZjfOXDHrKSpzY4myT9wgOhov7KoM6suNhK9Jnt7uZJGGTQ8RuomA7mi3zUDmHfBmzqAYLa1p7FIPZ9Bw20_n95vGDRMgZ3MhkFVi8aLYdcfV0DtDj_DZacukXx50kEC2bBby-stxy_PhTSuUx8cusSul2baarynhEvbZeUn-TAAx/s3456/20240114_140639.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="3456" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO6zK06wwgSxYZiQE6ZjfOXDHrKSpzY4myT9wgOhov7KoM6suNhK9Jnt7uZJGGTQ8RuomA7mi3zUDmHfBmzqAYLa1p7FIPZ9Bw20_n95vGDRMgZ3MhkFVi8aLYdcfV0DtDj_DZacukXx50kEC2bBby-stxy_PhTSuUx8cusSul2baarynhEvbZeUn-TAAx/s320/20240114_140639.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div> I quilted another one this afternoon. Its a little bit crowded but preferable to the cold cellar. When I bought my longarm in 2008 I had 120 tops or flimsies waiting to get quilted. I never intended to quilt them all. Many I used in my lectures as is. Since then I've quilted about 24 per year on average but apparently most of them are donation quilts for the church quilt group I belong to. I have continued to piece tops and quilt some of my own too. I now have about 130 tops waiting to be quilted. I plan to quilt more of them, whittling away the pile slowly.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5RHZUkK97Ym_iVM6psOGMrm94pUJAE9BRikNCBoBPupVR5y8UN7M1u47aXVXP7zxUOxtjNM94O9shmoLGvqET7vijOcOc8LlNhvWfYwmJ-pIqXCeMATRtIm27Ka1J0Ki5sHQxfnk2a4kDs3sELdVlbDUF8R5hQpyIsvb85up68-KbvV_JcioD5XVhuugg/s3669/20230303_110601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3669" data-original-width="2729" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5RHZUkK97Ym_iVM6psOGMrm94pUJAE9BRikNCBoBPupVR5y8UN7M1u47aXVXP7zxUOxtjNM94O9shmoLGvqET7vijOcOc8LlNhvWfYwmJ-pIqXCeMATRtIm27Ka1J0Ki5sHQxfnk2a4kDs3sELdVlbDUF8R5hQpyIsvb85up68-KbvV_JcioD5XVhuugg/s320/20230303_110601.jpg" width="238" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is a top here but it's quilted. Lori1R, fellow Stasthbuster did hers in green. The 4-patches were made at Studio 3 in June. Then the top was assembled when I attended a retreat in October with Irene up at camp in White Lake, WI. I loved it there so much in the forest. We decided to plan on returning a few more times. I can see making this one again. <br /><br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4u-NaWgVdNXTzuwZY8ZAfrTW5r5agu8TaORAdyCCdPmXZwmsMhoFaOobdGrFWfZtqO9wU-Urd33gV5ilRe8wB5RXUhCVZbj6qY8wmw8nlJ0gjiHzQLeoR2pEK5bETccmONEyQnbsERZX-cNm1RgKNg6NP4KVSf1tbZ40x5nnuBCK2AKEN_5CJQi14oQ/s3288/20221116_151923.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3249" data-original-width="3288" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4u-NaWgVdNXTzuwZY8ZAfrTW5r5agu8TaORAdyCCdPmXZwmsMhoFaOobdGrFWfZtqO9wU-Urd33gV5ilRe8wB5RXUhCVZbj6qY8wmw8nlJ0gjiHzQLeoR2pEK5bETccmONEyQnbsERZX-cNm1RgKNg6NP4KVSf1tbZ40x5nnuBCK2AKEN_5CJQi14oQ/s320/20221116_151923.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>I had the 2 blocks for this done and ready to finish at retreat too. I like to take projects all cut out and almost done so that I don't get confused. But I don't like to do borders at retreat. I often like to audition different border ideas. And for measuring the small ones I like to spread them out on my flannel wall to easily compare measurements to keep it square. </p><p>I had hoped to keep this blog current, but its been a challenge to sit at the computer and I'd rather post from the computer than my phone. Part of my delay is that I never got around to taking pictures. I'm caught up now I think. If I didn't take a picture its cause the quilts were simple little 4-patch or 9-patch donation quilts. </p><p>I did a fair bit of quilting this year so far using my longarm. Earlier in the year it was quilts for nephews family. I quilted a pile of donation quilts for church too. The other ladies do most of the piecing. I quilt the bigger ones for them and return them to the ladies for binding. We have one other volunteer with a longarm. She provides batting and backing and finishing and takes donations to her choice of charities. The church ladies like that. They just want to sew. </p><p>I will check and see if that's everything, but I think so. No doubt it would be easier now to post from my phone, so we will see if that happens any time soon. Till then.</p><p>Happy Thanksgiving to all. </p></div></div></div>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-62660527098047299682022-09-09T22:41:00.001-05:002022-09-09T22:44:22.101-05:00Not like before<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwVDtE1ucvNcDZP6BmA4XVijtMFTA-Samn6aaEtZu-0Yj1HSBJ1h2ZHPP4srsrtBQyEfLsfhIoCdU7YSc9bC0qyBhOLlEu-pdrWdVBmCSBJxnqFvnhE6W9YHm7Ld7zK6mKNljtiGHZyR24KqcUDe8RCQiu2HKeewee66TkSlcg_h2rBn_jT-k_kDmI0A/s4624/original_15e31f6b-a138-4dd9-905f-4d3b5bfaff7d_20220909_220247.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwVDtE1ucvNcDZP6BmA4XVijtMFTA-Samn6aaEtZu-0Yj1HSBJ1h2ZHPP4srsrtBQyEfLsfhIoCdU7YSc9bC0qyBhOLlEu-pdrWdVBmCSBJxnqFvnhE6W9YHm7Ld7zK6mKNljtiGHZyR24KqcUDe8RCQiu2HKeewee66TkSlcg_h2rBn_jT-k_kDmI0A/s320/original_15e31f6b-a138-4dd9-905f-4d3b5bfaff7d_20220909_220247.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>a 3 yard quilt using 4 fabrics. I bordered and will quilt and another will bind.<p> So, yes, you can see I'm still quilting. Pretty much just comfort quilts for those in need. Just not like before when it was nearly a daily thing. I guess that's what retirement does to some people, change their way of life. I would like to quilt more and am making a bigger effort at it lately. It's been a challenging summer; my time is not my own. Things have calmed down and gardening season is winding down. Darker earlier when I prefer to quilt downstairs, so I should be more productive now. </p><p>This week I prepped 7 backs and ordered batting so I'll be ready when it arrives. </p><p>Today the Studio 3 Friday quilters met for the first time since covid hit. So fun catching up. We agreed we ought to meet just every other week and changed days to Wednesday. Thursday group attends quite sporadically. Maybe time to invite some new blood!</p><p>I have more to show but need pictures first!</p><p><br /></p></div>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-11879938137030666132022-06-15T12:48:00.000-05:002022-06-15T12:48:03.424-05:00REPORTING IN<p> I've got 2 finishes to report. The 1st is a quilt from my great niece that finishes about 58" square. I made the top a few years ago using 1930s reproduction fabrics.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOQx9qsmA1oLhDL0jBGypumO3YMawHENchmBL6yUaEnYlkWvJ_HM8DdqAQUDIRCw-uUPGuy-l9q2JV4V97ZzLXpocvtpidOXMzB1bS6DpYFM2VK9v-zEfiAF67kfQuSi5jf1njVS1hyNr1x3hu6WOPaeL6WJpbjqKHR82Xoww24A_tEzblWEVU6wkzGg/s3470/20220504_094145~2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3470" data-original-width="3468" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOQx9qsmA1oLhDL0jBGypumO3YMawHENchmBL6yUaEnYlkWvJ_HM8DdqAQUDIRCw-uUPGuy-l9q2JV4V97ZzLXpocvtpidOXMzB1bS6DpYFM2VK9v-zEfiAF67kfQuSi5jf1njVS1hyNr1x3hu6WOPaeL6WJpbjqKHR82Xoww24A_tEzblWEVU6wkzGg/s320/20220504_094145~2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX656KrNDuMYpIrEJgXeyYJnKBt9AYD1EoKByh_DuZ9fM6f82BnfUIHugV7oiaVA9UeobG1NBdaIut1apOK942lpX59qQ5iiUUIieZG6nobJqHp4EIvfdiXBYAiV2RaGpuSiHbgTOZYmxfR7GgIjmeerqOwpsrGCmHG24htfVa-iEUf8-z4hVSrLo8XA/s4624/20220614_224654.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX656KrNDuMYpIrEJgXeyYJnKBt9AYD1EoKByh_DuZ9fM6f82BnfUIHugV7oiaVA9UeobG1NBdaIut1apOK942lpX59qQ5iiUUIieZG6nobJqHp4EIvfdiXBYAiV2RaGpuSiHbgTOZYmxfR7GgIjmeerqOwpsrGCmHG24htfVa-iEUf8-z4hVSrLo8XA/s320/20220614_224654.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p> This 2nd one is a broken dishes quilt my dear daughter asked for. It was just twin size but when she saw it she said make it bigger for me so now it finishes 96" square. To incorporate some new and different scraps I took the seam out of the middle and added 2 rows to mix up the prints a little better. Cleaned out the scrap box of old prints with this one. </p>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-40479287791998495432022-03-24T22:16:00.002-05:002022-03-24T22:16:26.177-05:00SHORT STACKS<p> Well these short stacks of coins went together quickly. I had to futz with the stacks a bit to get them the same length because the strips weren't the same width throughout but that's OK. It was fun. Maybe cause it was bright. I'm ready to do something with triangles. next. That's not counting the pile of 20 blocks waiting to be set on point. The setting fabric is cut and the rows are pinned together in order. I hope a diagonal set won't be too confusing to work on while I chat with my phone friend. It is rare that I make a diagonally set quilt, but I am familiar enough that I should be able to do it without all kinds of ups and downs to the flannel wall. I hope. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj76s4IzZQdxcMCstPyzkVVE9c6tsYjyHO2Qi2tcpGNBkWt_VKAoHq0ffC2TGrL2q7U1PBbhher_oLf19GH_rEiijY0VAMomGmBo16Ep3a3CCPudgU7CCMP251ZwYSJb5Z2nZ3dZe0zlGwx6SikCkHGH25YCTJXleVE0oY3fxfmuxvXIQU58KztrHdSUQ/s4624/20220324_214743.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj76s4IzZQdxcMCstPyzkVVE9c6tsYjyHO2Qi2tcpGNBkWt_VKAoHq0ffC2TGrL2q7U1PBbhher_oLf19GH_rEiijY0VAMomGmBo16Ep3a3CCPudgU7CCMP251ZwYSJb5Z2nZ3dZe0zlGwx6SikCkHGH25YCTJXleVE0oY3fxfmuxvXIQU58KztrHdSUQ/w480-h640/20220324_214743.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>My arms still isn't all better after injuring it last year. The bright scraps I found at an estate sale a few years ago. I knew the little scraps would work for this pattern and precut to boot, so I snatched them up. A few bigger pieces of green and red pieces were in the mix but didn't work for this quilt. Not just the size, but the color. In exchange I added a few orange pieces.. Fun brights aren't my usual MO but couldn't resist. And the black sashing print with those fun bright little circles? Yes, in my stash. And perfect for this quilt. Mark even asked me, Who made that quilt? He thinks it looks out of place here because it has no triangles. At least he didn't say it looked boring. Problem? Did I say there was a problem? </div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivBt_QiXTOZ8gk7TgIeqiQNX_G0BtJG5Ib2Za6cZ4_btHR_SJzTt8NOIBc-1DL3EkDn23NcIzKQ7KUg6bUIcd5-2sm8Zuh2GYRI7ruVucJJgXPnCCscDyfEZThqwAiZ8MsQcp2Ef8LiC0cFekIuvHuzoc37Q-CaxvMsdLFqqQ6xrgkPb4JKyFgUag_lQ/s4624/20220321_204602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivBt_QiXTOZ8gk7TgIeqiQNX_G0BtJG5Ib2Za6cZ4_btHR_SJzTt8NOIBc-1DL3EkDn23NcIzKQ7KUg6bUIcd5-2sm8Zuh2GYRI7ruVucJJgXPnCCscDyfEZThqwAiZ8MsQcp2Ef8LiC0cFekIuvHuzoc37Q-CaxvMsdLFqqQ6xrgkPb4JKyFgUag_lQ/w480-h640/20220321_204602.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Since this is as big as I want to go, I have plenty of leftover brights to make a second version. The teacher, Sonya Lee Barrington, had samples of what could be done with the strip sets but did not provide a pattern. I didn't really need a pattern because I didn't particularly like my strip sets. It was rare that I took a class and I wanted to use some older fabrics and not buy new because I didn't know what I would be doing with them. A few days ago I opened the box again and began cutting and sewing again to make one more strip set. I'd cut the other pieces last January so this time it was just a few hours to get them together. Why I decided rectangles and not squares is beyond me. And I still had to decide if I wanted them scattered or like I finally decided with matching sets all in a row. And the 3 at the top and bottom was a quick decision when I didn't have enough to complete the row and didn't care to make more.. I thought I might use the scraps from the back for a pieced back but then remembered another fabric about the same vintage and in the right colors. I am now anxious to get 'er done. I guess the time was right.</p>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-72146880974697056352022-01-25T15:25:00.000-06:002022-01-25T15:25:52.955-06:00The Latest from Here<p><span style="font-size: medium;">I didn't do a year end review because I hadn't posted in so long till the last 3 posts that show what I would have included, so if you missed it you might want to back up a few posts. I participated in the Stashbusters Stay at Home Retreat a few weeks ago.I thought I'd report and show my work at the time. I guess better late than never. I had hoped to get 3 to flimsy stage. I guess I did, but not the 3 I had hoped. That means I have one ready and waiting.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYc4bfvLbn7u7dKFbXhsOlidoKRIA5BJHOey2ZJUImi_WkDAZpJGiSaDfuM3PsBNhAcWZ1GNhT0YrXOUzWd6HtneflYGmt8aaibWQ3YY9MLEYu1h4jD2P5kCvK5jHWdr3muGz0jS2J8c6bZfFWdoOgQuA1JG7hxFzIf3sWf83UXieC94tutMHIvQs4Yw=s3784" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3784" data-original-width="3111" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhYc4bfvLbn7u7dKFbXhsOlidoKRIA5BJHOey2ZJUImi_WkDAZpJGiSaDfuM3PsBNhAcWZ1GNhT0YrXOUzWd6HtneflYGmt8aaibWQ3YY9MLEYu1h4jD2P5kCvK5jHWdr3muGz0jS2J8c6bZfFWdoOgQuA1JG7hxFzIf3sWf83UXieC94tutMHIvQs4Yw=w359-h436" width="359" /></a></div><span style="font-size: medium;">The first is this pinwheel quilt I showed before. I had leftover yellow triangles, so I must have planned to complete the pinwheels at the edge. I didn't have anything suitable for a border, so I actually went shopping. Being bright, I thought something in the Kaffe Fasset collection might work. The shop Quiltagious in Mukwonago has a wall full of those prints. And yes, I actually like them, but rarely buy or use them. Mark drove me, I didn't show him what I bought when I got to the car or at home. Then he sees it on the quilt and says "Who would buy that? I spose it was church fabric you wanted to use up. Um "NO, I bought it last week to border that quilt. Doesn't it look great?" Yeah well, if you don't think so maybe the picture doesn't do it justice. </span><p></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEih2HBRwF0RregDUBEuyUCpFrjHLRtbuu1HKd0tKVyS6XcuWi3DLjgqYeVKcVrmZ7pA_KbQJl_uZkKatmn_VZv8oGSrHfIhByQ70Qxy46GyrNF4pj7Lop2Nr7S7ATwbASuyFyZqffZ3KwWa1I5imlXb_L0muIJaOpTuIAzoSDU713vlroXdBvT8EtKmYA=s3595" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3595" data-original-width="3006" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEih2HBRwF0RregDUBEuyUCpFrjHLRtbuu1HKd0tKVyS6XcuWi3DLjgqYeVKcVrmZ7pA_KbQJl_uZkKatmn_VZv8oGSrHfIhByQ70Qxy46GyrNF4pj7Lop2Nr7S7ATwbASuyFyZqffZ3KwWa1I5imlXb_L0muIJaOpTuIAzoSDU713vlroXdBvT8EtKmYA=w335-h400" width="335" /></a></div><p><span style="font-size: large;">The framed and sashed four-patches is a design I found in the book "Worth Doing Twice" called Elsie Mildred. Not easy to remember. I call it Thelma and Louise . I didn't follow it exactly; nothing new. It went together quickly. Maybe cause it was mostly cut out when I took the box off the shelf. But more likely cause there are no triangles in the quilt. I really enjoyed making it, except for the sashing. Ugh. Mark though it was boring maybe cause he's "used to seeing triangles". It may reside in our living room if I get it quilted.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgzbFQ_ieQ7myL5VHOm8OiOp38RDaLGTbUDfk48Cfbih7h5XQfTzD-Wz_4ziWU7Vg0zKVMCuVEtIasWf20XJoA4k2RAcEO5CxW6SE19Qx2uue4oO71eNPtsfJZB73pMKwiyWnnDx1KdpvZpI6nThYqYJBRm6MO6Sn-UFIz7wt5s3gHYo5n5N6-sQV_vCw=s3994" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3994" data-original-width="3449" height="518" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgzbFQ_ieQ7myL5VHOm8OiOp38RDaLGTbUDfk48Cfbih7h5XQfTzD-Wz_4ziWU7Vg0zKVMCuVEtIasWf20XJoA4k2RAcEO5CxW6SE19Qx2uue4oO71eNPtsfJZB73pMKwiyWnnDx1KdpvZpI6nThYqYJBRm6MO6Sn-UFIz7wt5s3gHYo5n5N6-sQV_vCw=w447-h518" width="447" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;">This Past and Present variation of a quilt by Kim Brackett was mostly pieced at Studio 3. The blocks were sitting there most of the last 2 years, I could blame Covid, but all I had to do was bring it home to finish. I usually join the blocks here anyway so I can use my big flannel wall, but I had 12 blocks waiting to get finished. Not a favorite but a friend liked it. What do you think? Likely I will finish it for donation.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj2t5kF09X8OV0cHBeVxCJTXQyFvP6WufSyQ4VcbwawDsgNyuWTNSCeKhZ9ToN7Wp5ETLYByamAIyZOfWUO_zgWA3-i4DlJpJKADjPXIzelzpQ3zD05Uxz8T1BJRY-4lO8X-cELTH0IK-H_zZczXWiLkO-czC3Xf_TBCASzJ0kJJpXxHt2hdpAZSlJAxg=s4624" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="455" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj2t5kF09X8OV0cHBeVxCJTXQyFvP6WufSyQ4VcbwawDsgNyuWTNSCeKhZ9ToN7Wp5ETLYByamAIyZOfWUO_zgWA3-i4DlJpJKADjPXIzelzpQ3zD05Uxz8T1BJRY-4lO8X-cELTH0IK-H_zZczXWiLkO-czC3Xf_TBCASzJ0kJJpXxHt2hdpAZSlJAxg=w341-h455" width="341" /></a></div><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This Blue Baby Sunshine and Shadow quilt was made following the pattern in the book, Tradition with a Twist. This is the second one I made of that pattern. Super Simple I did this one with the quilters at Studio 3. The quilting and binding is done and it has been passed on to a great niece. On the longarm frame now is a quilt for her mom and dad. <br /><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have a few empty project boxes in the closet now and hope to empty more soon. I've been focusing on emptying the boxes that have been sitting there the longest. Many are just leftovers suitable for a good start on a donation quilt. As much as I enjoy them, I hope I don't put off using the good stuff. That would be all the purchases made more recently. It is so hard to prioritize when you love it all, but I bet you knew that. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><br /><p></p>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-50625471242321183202021-12-29T18:42:00.002-06:002021-12-29T18:44:49.767-06:00Two More Tops<p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhsCbFTXRl_qt4fzb592Aurm7Az3YWv4zhpPHyFvhD2pQ6yoTyeLvEgTnNisarCY8CaeTs90kWuFh-wa4e51ldaqozvQKEqlVtHtfmo5pY5K-v85P_Xk0N73b6igyNnIoOB7rrxn1jEYDGikGuKENcy2zSAXlQ9QBFLGXpRcCe_2LmTJd1FpsU2C579SA=s3617" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3617" data-original-width="2901" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhsCbFTXRl_qt4fzb592Aurm7Az3YWv4zhpPHyFvhD2pQ6yoTyeLvEgTnNisarCY8CaeTs90kWuFh-wa4e51ldaqozvQKEqlVtHtfmo5pY5K-v85P_Xk0N73b6igyNnIoOB7rrxn1jEYDGikGuKENcy2zSAXlQ9QBFLGXpRcCe_2LmTJd1FpsU2C579SA=w321-h400" width="321" /></a></div> <span style="font-size: medium;"> Two more tops done. I may have started this one over 10 years ago. I used it to demonstrate the Thirtysomething technique when I was teaching. I would have made it bigger but I don't have any more red fabric left except for Civil War prints. It's called<b> Family Tree. </b>The pattern is in The Thirtysomething Block Book. It will remain a UFO for now.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Since Covid-19 struck, I've been in a quilt shop maybe 4 times. In and out quickly. I'm planning to go soon. It should be fun. I want to plan carefully because I don't need to add to my stash for the fun of it. Well, maybe a little. But maybe not red. Mark always told me to have fun when I went off to a quilt shop and that does mean to shop, right? </span></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><span>This Triple four-patch was started earlier this year when Stashbusters started a </span><b>Trail Mix</b><span> SewAlong. I just loved the block. The quilt has 5 different blocks in it, but since I made small wheel chair quilts with my blocks, I only used 2 or 3 different blocks per quilt. There are several ways to color the blocks and piece them too. This is what I ended up with. I won't be including a border on this one. And some day I may just add more blocks, provided the colors don't look out of place.</span></span></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjtmOp1EsLKR63GoBNSvZIBd2iOBTBoKFp3XizsOEiwpddxuTeiNEs2d_WIzepxu3KXSPJTTM7Pu4UziskKlknMkUdQ2hv86NLA2XWOURkIWsI5jgsun0tlMx-3ZMXtf_LL-_lNzjTpEspRy5-m6SS4r35vzJWpo9ogM_y5SiRR-1hYnyBIGh8xXxMVSg=s3468" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3468" data-original-width="3088" height="459" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjtmOp1EsLKR63GoBNSvZIBd2iOBTBoKFp3XizsOEiwpddxuTeiNEs2d_WIzepxu3KXSPJTTM7Pu4UziskKlknMkUdQ2hv86NLA2XWOURkIWsI5jgsun0tlMx-3ZMXtf_LL-_lNzjTpEspRy5-m6SS4r35vzJWpo9ogM_y5SiRR-1hYnyBIGh8xXxMVSg=w409-h459" width="409" /></a><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">I took this picture of the bald eagles this morning out my sewing room window. When we found it, we came upon a deer skeleton within a few feet of it. I haven't seen the beaver in years, just the stumps of the trees and bushes they cut down. Even a few years ago. I wanted a better picture for my Pintrest board I labeled, Those I Did. They aren't labeled well on Pintrest as I am not intersted in sitting at the computer that much. As I was loading pictures to Pintrest I called it my Catalog as I have directed nieces and nephews to choose a quilt from that board. They can copy and paste in a text to me. Names aren't that important to me. Can you tell? And there are still a few I remember but don't have a picture of and they are already gone. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOg9M3_ZGvlnleDQ1BYbfqK-Eh7KLkaY73zHbGltAj4G53AuhpEsyzGK7k-LxzS75Gkl3R-0RUm_YiMnogB-aSGYIoFytYwWL-8s-E8PesIW9GL0zvV1M0I-zFnkyFPEYem4Uz8hcJ7uE5/s4624/20211207_184611.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOg9M3_ZGvlnleDQ1BYbfqK-Eh7KLkaY73zHbGltAj4G53AuhpEsyzGK7k-LxzS75Gkl3R-0RUm_YiMnogB-aSGYIoFytYwWL-8s-E8PesIW9GL0zvV1M0I-zFnkyFPEYem4Uz8hcJ7uE5/w480-h640/20211207_184611.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Delectable Mountains</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIj6VmNunkW4PtJYqxbmYQZJUViaDC_wPakYDw1vmoMtefNOHOzkHjY_qK2kjxrwNdy58EJEGHhw3WaOLmSlrgxTRSxI9dQ9JCklnCXdssb0rQtlFRJxMCTAIl0xSTy1usTcYXi4SIFfzI/s4624/20211207_183814.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="501" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIj6VmNunkW4PtJYqxbmYQZJUViaDC_wPakYDw1vmoMtefNOHOzkHjY_qK2kjxrwNdy58EJEGHhw3WaOLmSlrgxTRSxI9dQ9JCklnCXdssb0rQtlFRJxMCTAIl0xSTy1usTcYXi4SIFfzI/w376-h501/20211207_183814.jpg" width="376" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgtYYNKBYhGf0JLWLj7T9bBRwQlzqn1YBifxijwxalLxLF11WIL65kWI6CyAIv-WI9_CzVGG8S4FN-oLVAh9FVr9jpP9uslCw9hIg79t7dV8PHJc7PvppMv29S6NfiZLObxAGOThX6VCHk/s3468/original_e0c40c04-dcfc-44d9-95e5-153b61d9c03c_20211207_182657.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3413" data-original-width="3468" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgtYYNKBYhGf0JLWLj7T9bBRwQlzqn1YBifxijwxalLxLF11WIL65kWI6CyAIv-WI9_CzVGG8S4FN-oLVAh9FVr9jpP9uslCw9hIg79t7dV8PHJc7PvppMv29S6NfiZLObxAGOThX6VCHk/w400-h394/original_e0c40c04-dcfc-44d9-95e5-153b61d9c03c_20211207_182657.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUWrApk43bLxM2nwA5PI4JUK2B0HzUEnJyQZFZo39fL4SMm2tnqpTSxVcKCrwZVKS1iWX6R_RNRAwHmdnNqQYxS1DPEaZKqoPBnntk-W1u2kQdOdJ6XOK757KQ88kLtchTxTGg2TPO8hJ/s3487/20211207_182438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3487" data-original-width="2700" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUWrApk43bLxM2nwA5PI4JUK2B0HzUEnJyQZFZo39fL4SMm2tnqpTSxVcKCrwZVKS1iWX6R_RNRAwHmdnNqQYxS1DPEaZKqoPBnntk-W1u2kQdOdJ6XOK757KQ88kLtchTxTGg2TPO8hJ/w310-h400/20211207_182438.jpg" width="310" /></a>This is "Bermuda Sunrise", a Frog Hollow Design</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqJZed73wR5tlDK3JpFp9CzYwWchA6KJkG6e1eyW1KIu3DmrKbYdezQbK_mkZIt10eRlwRPebNNqTUMdrTNDdXXX9wXT30IvnPZgvuNX4d3f5UuL_Jgz8kwBXV2d_bo3GoryotWtcSFTO9/s4624/20211115_214418.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4624" data-original-width="3468" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqJZed73wR5tlDK3JpFp9CzYwWchA6KJkG6e1eyW1KIu3DmrKbYdezQbK_mkZIt10eRlwRPebNNqTUMdrTNDdXXX9wXT30IvnPZgvuNX4d3f5UuL_Jgz8kwBXV2d_bo3GoryotWtcSFTO9/s320/20211115_214418.jpg" width="240" /></a>Still thinking about a border for this one.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_1kQ3UYl8bT2NKlMRRFs2lbJuFMopjFOtlt3XOFZrTk_YfXAjAvr4FQ5dlEnT7PrVt3sk8CFPEFywsaT5P0GzRVxvepb7Fg0X-E3ahUGAWweyEXknq4MqT6r3mg5e6C72IazfC2CEn_FB/s4128/20211106_140255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4128" data-original-width="3096" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_1kQ3UYl8bT2NKlMRRFs2lbJuFMopjFOtlt3XOFZrTk_YfXAjAvr4FQ5dlEnT7PrVt3sk8CFPEFywsaT5P0GzRVxvepb7Fg0X-E3ahUGAWweyEXknq4MqT6r3mg5e6C72IazfC2CEn_FB/w480-h640/20211106_140255.jpg" width="480" /></a>This was a collaboration between my niece and myself. She is a beginning quilter and I showed her how you can arrange a variety of common units in a variety of ways to fit within a 9-patch set up. It didn't take much for her to figure it out. All my pieces were precut. she designed the blocks and I did the sewing. Lots of fun and a great lesson.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p>Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-285375321712686592021-12-07T16:30:00.002-06:002021-12-07T19:10:51.034-06:00A little donation<p> Following are some of the quilts or tops I made for donation. The little ones are sure fast. I'm sure I didn't get pictures of them all. It can be frustrating to get a good picture. I seem to get the best picture with a flash if I take it at night when it is dark in the room and there is no other light to influence the color. That's the tip I got from a professional photographer that shot pics for my first book.</p><p>Some I pieced and quilted, some I just quilted for donation for our church group. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; But life got in the way. A herniated disk at C7-T1 made it difficult to do much of anything, add to that a good case of arthritis and I am not too comfortable at the computer anymore. It hasn't stopped me from piecing quilt tops at least. I do a bit of quilting and hope to do more now that it is winter and my back is better. I'll plan to post pictures of what I've put together. Some for me, some donation quilts. our church group thought we might focus on wheelchair quilts so those will be smaller than usual. They haven't been delivered yet, so don't know how they will be received. Between Covid-19 and my back, I haven't met with the ladies much at Studio 3 either. Good thing it is not important that I show these in any particular order. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywKpdDjQxkqet_8IU8-ZoMk40R4mwtujGdLGW1GbiGEjFyzBjylKyhyztqpzv8jKjJ5LuW52izFT_z124fgEKiw9i9Amb03O6jC9gOvT0naIYmvmzP3hnnOseQZCbSafh667ssZBJjZ_m/s2576/20200421_140522.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2576" data-original-width="1932" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywKpdDjQxkqet_8IU8-ZoMk40R4mwtujGdLGW1GbiGEjFyzBjylKyhyztqpzv8jKjJ5LuW52izFT_z124fgEKiw9i9Amb03O6jC9gOvT0naIYmvmzP3hnnOseQZCbSafh667ssZBJjZ_m/w480-h640/20200421_140522.jpg" title="A Favorite Star" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh2oSxmT7vgSp-H7xe9BisELObMMqUj2fL9vWEbHhUZAR35Epm8JRyTcISJ_9BR8XujTyrY6Oal2kYRmwO70v81MoUvHWyohJdaHm6QlBJCEn5zmM1oqbnPYUsK945cNw8IigQOIRRtYgc/s3096/20200829_081442.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3096" data-original-width="3002" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh2oSxmT7vgSp-H7xe9BisELObMMqUj2fL9vWEbHhUZAR35Epm8JRyTcISJ_9BR8XujTyrY6Oal2kYRmwO70v81MoUvHWyohJdaHm6QlBJCEn5zmM1oqbnPYUsK945cNw8IigQOIRRtYgc/s320/20200829_081442.jpg" width="310" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I drew this up eons ago. Some bigger tops were quilted too, but I posted them before as a top. I also donated a bunch of quilt tops to QOV for someone else to finish and just passed on a box with 8 tops for a stashbuster friend to finish and donate. That would be Ellen. Thanks you Ellen. I hope to post the donation quilts next. Then I'll take more pictures and may add a few more. I do like to see them all here on the blog. Maybe if I used the voice to text feature I would post more. As usual it didn't happen.<br />
It wasn't my health this time but the health of the world when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. No, it didn't reach us, but I did sew less because of it. I would quilt with the ladies at church or at Studio 3 and that all came to an end. Temporarily I spose but nobody knows for how long. I did make a pile of facemasks to spread around mostly to family.<br />

He has gone to Rehab. We took the opportunity to give his home a deep cleaning. We also brought his cat, Meatball here. I couldn't turn my back on her and our cat, Bob for a little while, but now they get along ok. <br />

Since Mark has retired and we own 20 acres of woods and wetland across the street I've enjoyed our new hobby of cutting and burning brush in winter. We average 11burn piles each winter. Some we build earlier in the year, some brush we stack the day before we burn. We always cut more and add to it once it's lit. It's a dirty smelly job, but I really enjoy it. The fires remind me of campfires I always liked. And I like the way everything looks cleaned up. I have to remind myself that I am working in the woods and not a park and not to go overboard with cleaning it up too much. I like the exercise and being outside, even in winter. One thing is for sure, we will never run out of brush to burn. The ash trees are dying from the Emerald ash borer. The elm trees die from Dutch elm disease and an occasional oak dies from oak wilt disease. Add to that an understory of non-native invasives such as buckthorn. The woodland was not maintained as an oak forest and had become quite overgrown but not nearly as bad as I've seen. It's looking pretty good but still there is more to be done.<br />
I did do some sewing this winter besides the masks. These Bears Paw blocks were made by my friend, Lucrecia before she died. I added the sashing and border. I'll get it quilted soon and we will raffle it at church this fall.<br />

<br />Now that Spring is here, no doubt I will be busy among my wildflowers in my yard and across the street. Maybe I will finally picnic out there this year. I likely will do little quilting.<br />
<br />
Stay home and quilt everyone, or take a hike for some fresh air. <br />

I made the blocks for this first quilt late last year. I made the blocks before (the 1930's prints) and in fact I wanted to make the quilt again just in the 1800's fabrics.<br />
I couldn't find a sashing fabric I liked, so chose to change the setting. Finding setting triangle fabric was easier. Finally I decided to border it first with sashing fabric then border fabric to match the setting triangles. I wanted it to fit my table in case I was in the mood to use it there. I'll leave it on the wall a few days to think about how I might want to quilt it.<br />

I mentioned last post how I have been cutting my scraps. Since them I've made more blocks. The pile on the left goes together with the cornerstones shown. I still have to piece the sashing. The pile on the right can go to charity. There are a dozen blocks in each pile. I think. Do I have cataracts or are these pictures really dark? hmm. They could be tops soon but I've been using the longarm in the evening. So not likely. <br />

I quilted a 2012 top last weekend and I've got another small one ready
to quilt next Yes, everywhere I turn I have another one to quilt. It
seems if I decide how I want to quilt it then that's what gets quilted
next. I love it! Christmas is past and spring is months away. Many years ago I used to browse seed catalogs. But for a long time now it only meant one thing and of course you know its quilting. I'm knee deep in lots of projects and having a blast. This is some of what I've been doing. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2AAXqbNvjlMN8NBLa1ka1GN2-YNEIpzHHMEVPdb9kUUhc0tZu59ozwrrCxbz4JUNLcNOkW-Vo_enlJ5FTweOW3ulhWCiAsQ0cabbX706xqOsLi2XDAcH-e4KiE8yZKiqhiOp48LeK1uxl/s1600/20200110_220352.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2AAXqbNvjlMN8NBLa1ka1GN2-YNEIpzHHMEVPdb9kUUhc0tZu59ozwrrCxbz4JUNLcNOkW-Vo_enlJ5FTweOW3ulhWCiAsQ0cabbX706xqOsLi2XDAcH-e4KiE8yZKiqhiOp48LeK1uxl/s320/20200110_220352.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I made a decision about the 2" mystery triangles, finished 30 blocks and set them aside. But that wasn't till after I arranged some on the wall like this. I may not do much more with it than sew them together but something else caught my intrest.<br />
<br />
I pulled out 3 of my own tops to quilt and 1 is done. I added it to 2 more waiting for binding and started a pile. I don't mind binding at all but I'm in no hurry. Maybe I'll save that job for summertime.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1Z7qAJvxBr43XmmuI5hDnlSRf384Mu1DlxGC_R_xTVXa16CfDI_W3SwV8n9I_7NTXxwD_hxtLiBqyTR1bP1ATj-ink4dAeDYTM3epTZo7seFNhvYrJ61rm4C1Zy0sMh4b2N-IVnovoBaw/s1600/20200112_130516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1Z7qAJvxBr43XmmuI5hDnlSRf384Mu1DlxGC_R_xTVXa16CfDI_W3SwV8n9I_7NTXxwD_hxtLiBqyTR1bP1ATj-ink4dAeDYTM3epTZo7seFNhvYrJ61rm4C1Zy0sMh4b2N-IVnovoBaw/s320/20200112_130516.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
At Studio 3 I finished my plaid 4-patch and shoo fly top. I love it. I should have planned it bigger.<br />
<br />
Also, I pulled a 2 yr. old ufo out of the closet. I need to cut a few more blocks. Maybe even a few more cause I havent decided how big to make it. I have enough fabric for bed size. I imagine once I put it on the wall I'll want to go bigger.<br />
<br />
I have my boxes of Civil War scraps here from Studio 3 and I've been cutting for kits. More fun. I love cutting and kitting. I ran out of project boxes so I guess I should go sew now.Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-16555401884540793992020-01-07T20:09:00.001-06:002020-01-07T20:09:52.342-06:00The best alternativeIt's winter in Wisconsin. We don't have snow now, but it's coldish. The best alternative I know to being out in the cold is spending time in the sewing room. Our temperatures have been a bit above normal the last month, so I get outside on good days for a hike. Now that hunting season is over Mark and I have started to work in the woods again, thinning the understory and stacking brush and wood from fallen trees. It's great to work in the woods when there is no snow and the leaves are off the trees. You can easily see all the trees that came down that you want to clean up. We don't aim to pick it all up cause really leaving it is good for the woods, but with much more forecasted to fall down, it'll be a real jungle in there if we don't clean it up some while we are able. And if feels good to work of those Christmas goodies. <br />

In December I was able to finish my 1930's quilt I call my <br />
porch quilt cause I think that's where it would look best, On someone's enclosed porch in summertime. Maybe with white wicker furniture. Sorry the photo is so pale.<br />

I never took a good picture of it cause the border was never on it. I'm just showing you a quarter of the quilt here - my evidence that it's done. It's big so I'll get it on the bed for a shot and I will get it on the flannel wall too, but that will wait till Mark moves some of His Christmas stuff in the way.<br />
<br />
I told myself that I wasn't going to start anything new till I get the borders on 3 quilts. Then I found a 4th, then I made a 5th. Then I bordered 2. I still have to get a border for the 16 patch I did last month and I found the fabric for one other. I'm still using the excuse Mark's stuff is in my way. That should tell you that I started something new. 4 quilts actually. I just dove into my scraps and started cutting. Not without making some plans first. So I cut and kitted up a few more new quilts.That is always so much fun. Some plans aren't final. I didn't do any counting. I didn't even draw up any plans. For 2 of them I had a picture I put with the pieces.<br />
<br />
The other 2 are mysteries. That means I don't even know what I am doing with them. There are 2 different sets of triangles. One set is 3" finished Civil War triangles, both light and dark. Do I sew them together for HST units. No, I don't think so. I went to EQ and tossed around a few ideas and quickly made a decision. But I need to cut more background and squares before I proceed. The box of scraps for that is at Studio 3. I'll pick those up tomorrow.<br />
<br />
The other set I didn't cut just now, they have been accumulating for probably a few years. When I cleaned out the closet a few months ago, I noticed the box of 2" finished pieces was quite full and then I saw Nann at <a href="http://withstringsattached.blogspot.com/">WithStringsAttached</a> had the same issue so made a quilt with her surplus triangles so I figured I ought to do the same since I was taking a break from quilting downstairs. What else is a quilter to do? I had a few ideas of what to do with them. First this block came to mind. Nope.<br />
<br />
<br />

Then I decided I would make a block with the triangles arranged around a light center square like the first block in this picture. But where do I want to go from there? I tell you, it's a mystery. I'm still not sure. Look at the options. And there are more I am not showing. Nope, not going to EQ with this one. Well, I have been having a good time. I hope you have been busy quilting too.Gayle Bonghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09079656510298797696noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-450416843128933474.post-88868660618058455952019-12-16T21:54:00.000-06:002019-12-16T21:54:36.156-06:00Deep PilesIt's that time of year when one takes inventory of accomplishments made in the past year or makes lists of what they hope to get done in the next year. About a month ago I made a list of what I hope to still get done this year. Let's see how I did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhafEdHvM4ddWeT-P8kTODHvs0wuHTPGK_kxnS8DfYZ-iSD9J778DrSYsv9H61ltI6dFMBc0sJT810iS9psq9kNJMmP6r-bUkNYirgJjFKJ09sgbSNrZhnd27GOXC5iaUy6O8JVJ1rPE_Ur/s1600/20191216_090304.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhafEdHvM4ddWeT-P8kTODHvs0wuHTPGK_kxnS8DfYZ-iSD9J778DrSYsv9H61ltI6dFMBc0sJT810iS9psq9kNJMmP6r-bUkNYirgJjFKJ09sgbSNrZhnd27GOXC5iaUy6O8JVJ1rPE_Ur/s320/20191216_090304.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
I thought I might finish 2 more tops this year. This 16-patch quilt I'd just started. It'll get done if I can find a border for it.</div>
<div>
<br />
I finished finished the applique quilt. That means it's bound too.<br />
<br />
Three of the six quilts that needed borders are now done. I found the fourth, now there is no excuse.<br />
<br />
I have reached the middle of the quilt I've got loaded downstairs. I'll still aim to finish that soon and maybe get another comfort quilt done before New Years. I thought I might be able to get 4 more quilted but I'm doing a custom job on it and the last and that slows me down. The next few are decided and the backs are ready.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR8_qXOFgRu0DqH_PJNWXoFdlcmfAFwkyX3RTiuXDnW0p4t5exOeNltKDtffAA_uWm_Zqexi6cZ-1mPBbRfK9XwzwUgXaSuASaotiX3ZI104fmrt875LTf0dZk8YQJw0LWdCOmMKXUjXwd/s1600/20191216_090457.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiR8_qXOFgRu0DqH_PJNWXoFdlcmfAFwkyX3RTiuXDnW0p4t5exOeNltKDtffAA_uWm_Zqexi6cZ-1mPBbRfK9XwzwUgXaSuASaotiX3ZI104fmrt875LTf0dZk8YQJw0LWdCOmMKXUjXwd/s320/20191216_090457.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
I opened a bag of scraps stuffed in a drawer and found these blocks. I remember them but didn't remember they were in the bag. The blocks all use Onlies units from my Thirtysomething Block book. So I've cut more to make a small quilt. I was just using up the fabric and so will have a pinwheel sampler. I haven't thought as far as sashing yet. It is small so there is a good chance I can get it done by New Years.<br />
There are a few other assorted piles for new quilts from that bag. And a few piles of fabric pulled for a few other quilts stacked on my table or piled on the floor. I need to tweak those selections before I start cutting. I like revisiting them weeks later. Seeing them with fresh eyes always helps me decide. Sometimes I can look at a pile and it all goes back in the drawer. It's not always the fabrics I chose but sometimes I decide against doing the design I had in mind. No time now.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtH_Ibv7QlXw8tJf2F7bKVBpQzJPRhW9lich-8IieXYJZrIHEcjPaCf3ejY4C3B7kcu5lniJDUA4Ur1djtvDa1F8Wa6wZ8tErdvwo9vnujsJUxByFCTBSwgPU3vdO_gIxRhdFwGZP0Zp3j/s1600/20191213_124623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1438" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtH_Ibv7QlXw8tJf2F7bKVBpQzJPRhW9lich-8IieXYJZrIHEcjPaCf3ejY4C3B7kcu5lniJDUA4Ur1djtvDa1F8Wa6wZ8tErdvwo9vnujsJUxByFCTBSwgPU3vdO_gIxRhdFwGZP0Zp3j/s400/20191213_124623.jpg" width="358" /></a>At Studio 3 I have several projects going, too. I bet you could have guessed. The one that has gotten the most attention lately is the homespun plaids. I thought I'd get this one done soon but it's taking longer than I thought. I'll be making it a little bigger than this, just enough to use up a small pile of scraps. I have a few ideas about using more of the plaids. I do like the plaid shoo-fly blocks, so I will be thinking of that as an option.<br />
I am having a hard time remembering Christmas will be here soon and there are things I must do to be ready. Cause really, I'd rather quilt! Can you tell?<br />

I've been dabbling at quite a few different quilts in the last week or two.</div>
I added borders to a few of the tops waiting. I updated the picture of the pinwheels with the green border added. I still have 2 big quilts that are waiting for their borders. Maybe by the end of the year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHfBBRVlooq0VWT3O2R2cx47zUL_9VJAF-myhghZQCCZscQdNUv2FZK0pbOvkgU9ALDiTR-M_F3fdHIM96B-9OAgrDTMEuhkQ3mHTIONAbpT4XNOMG1ZJH5CjXjg6zlY0f2xjB2hGeYVC/s1600/20191206_065900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1251" data-original-width="1600" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidHfBBRVlooq0VWT3O2R2cx47zUL_9VJAF-myhghZQCCZscQdNUv2FZK0pbOvkgU9ALDiTR-M_F3fdHIM96B-9OAgrDTMEuhkQ3mHTIONAbpT4XNOMG1ZJH5CjXjg6zlY0f2xjB2hGeYVC/s320/20191206_065900.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think this is a radiant star variation. I finished this one earlier this fall. I left it at Studio 3 and finally remembered to bring it home. I didn't have a definite plan for this one and I am happy enough with how it turned out. My original plan was to make a summer quilt. But with all the piecing in the stars, I don't think it is a good candidate for that. So to find the thinnest batting I can find. That may just be a layer of cotton flannel. I might add a flat green piping before a muslin binding but that will be determined after quilting in the year 20??.<br />
<br />

I finished the quilting on the qpplique quilt. I did a bunch of quilting in the ditch on my pfaff upstairs. I have a hard time doing a good job of that on the long arm and I do like what it adds to some quilts. I'll start work on the binding at Studio 3 this afternoon. I am going to plan to use this one. That is as opposed to just displaying it. It's nice to be able to say I actually hand appliqued a quilt. I think it's my first!<br />
<br />
Lisa was over the other day to finish cutting the blocks needed to enlarge the Broken Dishes quilt she chose. She did a fabulous job cutting. She hasn't worked with me in the sewing room in 20 years. She never did very much back then either. It was nice to share that with her. I'll do most of the sewing now to finish it but she may be interested in doing some. She liked the idea that it was a quilt we worked on together.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XbfyqcAD9bZYHldh1ALwHgDJl20LTNBAsQurKCk4378pPpUFKPE4XMyaNmyjyzI13JEEi22o4OJJuEYa-6q9JWMc5DpsxhaGYL92M_Sy7BRl9jR5vFS3APyfBJlYp1RnHc_Lk6LvI29b/s1600/20191205_161001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-XbfyqcAD9bZYHldh1ALwHgDJl20LTNBAsQurKCk4378pPpUFKPE4XMyaNmyjyzI13JEEi22o4OJJuEYa-6q9JWMc5DpsxhaGYL92M_Sy7BRl9jR5vFS3APyfBJlYp1RnHc_Lk6LvI29b/s320/20191205_161001.jpg" width="320" /></a>At Studio 3 I started work on a quilt using plaids. I've collected them for a good long while and when a bag of plaid scraps was turned in at church I just could resist no longer. Yet I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with them. The homespuns are a little thicker so I didn't want to many bulky triangle points coming together. So I chose 4 patches with a few Shoo Fly blocks mixed in. Still wasn't sure I'd like it so I only cut some. Yesterday after playing on the wall I could see it would be fine as long as I didn't use the busy plaids. Those are the ones with lots of light and dark colors in it. It's busy enough. Next I need to decide how much bigger I want to go. I have a bag fulllll of plaids.I like to mix in a few regular prints too. Just to relieve the business of the plaids. I hope to return to the ufo's in the closet soon.<br />
<br />
Upstairs here at home I opened a box on the shelf that I thought was part 2 of a 2 box kit. I was wrong. I think I simply put the fabrics together cause they didn't go with anything else in my stash. I had no plans for these but before you know it I settled on 16 patch block. Hmmmm. What next? I thought of using them in the center of stars, but since I cut 2 1/2" strips that would make pretty large stars so I decided to frame them with triangles in a light gray then sash them.We will see how they like that treatment soon.<br />
Yeah, One quilt at a time is just not my style.<br />

I was so pleased with how I got all my fabric to fit in place, but now I think I want to rearrange a bit more. I ended up with 2 big empty chest drawers. It shouldn't be hard to think of something that would be reasonable to store there.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp7nrr5hnjScfrv7U6FpuF_sBNye63spajHbcUBaxq7K-2YEmCzQRDdAzS4kzlMhRho1Xm01ElYHPEOLYZxY-xlexKjq059XazuaNpCyecxrYtKZBQODy9D4WNSyiBhhJCYaDq8qwzzIw9/s1600/20191125_074455%257E2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="592" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp7nrr5hnjScfrv7U6FpuF_sBNye63spajHbcUBaxq7K-2YEmCzQRDdAzS4kzlMhRho1Xm01ElYHPEOLYZxY-xlexKjq059XazuaNpCyecxrYtKZBQODy9D4WNSyiBhhJCYaDq8qwzzIw9/s320/20191125_074455%257E2.jpg" width="236" /></a>When Lisa was here the other day she saw a quilt in my Documentation Binder and she asked if it was big enough. They liked the 96" square I made for them a few years ago.<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, here it is and no, it is only 72" x 78". BUT it was made from scraps and it didn't have a border so we could easily make it bigger. She decided it would be cool to help me with that. So yesterday she came over and started cutting from the scrap drawer. Made quite a dent in it too. She did a great job cutting. Next I will have her cut the triangles and pair up lights and darks. IF she wants to do any actual piecing that's up to her. Otherwise I could do all the sewing. It was nice to spend the morning with her in the sewing room again.<br />
<br />
<br />

About 33 years ago. They were partially joined to make a checkerboard. I had plans to applique over the seams to make a Rob Peter to Pay Paul quilt. Years ago when I started it I wouldn't think of just fusing those curved patches over the seams. And satin stitch applique didn't interest me. Maybe it has to do with my hand applique skills at the time, but it was bad, so I ditched that effort but couldn't part with the fabric. I've been pushing it around in the closet a long time. I decided to shed a little natural light on it and brought it out to finally be finished.<br />
<br />
2 Hours later I had fused some squares over the middle of each square and had it quilted! Now I just need to locate the blue to bind it. Some little kid will enjoy it. It sure feels good making room in the closet by finishing things.<br />
<br />
I've been planning other new starts. I even cut out a quilt kit and put it on the shelf for piecing later at Studio 3. I have a few more I'm thinking of starting.When I run out of daylight then I head to the longarm. And sew it goes.<br />
